TargaCalc didn’t start as a product idea
It was a real privilege to have been recognised and presented with the Entrepreneur of the Month award last night by Simon Clark who runs the Peterborough region of the Entrepreneurs Circle.
Why?
Well having recently celebrated 5 years since I left Hertz to start TargaWeb back on 2021, I made the bold decision to rebrand to reflect the exclusive focus I now have in developing pricing calculators and cost estimators.
This included:
- Renaming the business from TargaWeb to TargaCalc (that was the easiest bit)
- Re-styling, re-branding and re-launching targacalc.com as the main business website. This meant taking all necessary steps to seamlessly redirect all traffic from TargaWeb.com to the new platform at TargaCalc.com and a LOT of internal link updates.
- Identify and update all external touchpoints, listings and social media (including LinkedIn, of course).
- SEO needed to remain strong despite the redirects, and any existing trust signals needed to continue to help AI platforms recognise and recommend TargaCalc as having a strong presence in pricing calculator development.
Rising to the challenge
Both TargaWeb.com and TargaCalc.com are completely bespoke, fully dynamic websites, so this work was FAR more than a search, replace and re-publish exercise. So besides the restyling, the website architecture and core functionality changes took a LOT of work, AND the business also had to keep running as usual.
But like I have heard Nigel Botterill say, “You can either try to play safe and protect what you’ve got, or do what you need to do to get to where you want to be.”
And so I did. It was the right thing to do.
Each month, Entrepreneurs Circle ask us to make a commitment, and to remain accountable for that commitment. But let’s be honest… the commitment was not for the benefit of the EC, but to myself, and for all of the reasons of continuing a successful 2026.
And so the story continues!
